This week at the IIIEE is quite ordinary! It marks the 30th anniversary of the IIIEE foundation and its legacy Masters program. We are proud to mark the 30th anniversary of the IIIEE along with our flagship Master's programme in Environmental Management and Policy. Since its official inauguration by His Majesty King Carl XVI Gustaf in 1995, the IIIEE has been at the forefront of interdisciplinary research, education, and policy engagement for sustainable development. Founded in 1994, the Institute was among the first in Europe to integrate environmental and economic perspectives, anticipating many of the debates that have come to define the field of sustainability science today.
The anniversary celebrations began on Tuesday, 6th of May, with a special event that brought together four Directors past and present in a shared speech. They reflected on the Institute’s evolution, from its early pioneering efforts to today’s global reach and influence. Their remarks highlighted the IIIEE’s role in shaping environmental policy, advancing cutting-edge research, and educating generations of sustainability professionals who now work across continents and sectors.
We extend warm thanks to everyone who joined us in celebration and who continues to contribute to the vibrant community that defines the IIIEE. Your dedication, curiosity, and collaborative spirit remain the driving forces behind our work.
A toast to the past, present, and future here’s to another 30 years of innovation, leadership, and impact in the service of a more sustainable world!
