Women in Power

Lots of people are crossing a busy intersection. The light is soft and against the camera, so the people are blurry.

Project Leader: Daniela Lazoroska

Duration: 2023-2027

Financing Body: Energimyndigheten

Collaborators: Kraftkvinnorna (SE)

IIIEE researchers: Jenny Palm, Anna-Riikka Kojonsaari

Aim: This project examines the role of women's professional networking and collectivization in the Swedish energy sector and its contribution to gender equality and diversity. While Sweden is a country at the top of the EU gender equality index, women are a minority in the energy sector. In recent years, there has been a wave of efforts to address this inequality, both through industry incentives and by women themselves. Women have built networks for mentoring and to highlight the challenges in the sector. Research has confirmed that professional networking is beneficial, but the practices involved and how it leads to promotions and well-being are rarely described in empirical detail. The project aims to provide a qualitative account of the practices that have a positive impact on their individual career development and suggest how this social capital is transformed into opportunities for other women.
