New report on the historical and policy narratives of domestic heating in Sweden

Radiator painted red

Do you know how district heating and electric heating were perceived in the news media when first coming into Swedish homes? Or how the arguments have changed for including heating costs in the rent over time?

As part of the JustHeat project, IIIEE researchers Jenny von Platten and Jenny Palm have published a new report providing an overview of the Swedish history of domestic heating from 1940 until today, and shines new light on current events by anchoring them in their historical context.

Transitions between domestic heating systems are deeply personal in the sense that they affect daily routines, division of labour between family members, and how we use our homes and energy alike. How people percieve today's transitions in home heating is strongly influenced by transitions in the past. This report offers a brief overview of the Swedish history of domestic heating from 1940 until today, and shines new light on current events by anchoring them in their historical context.
