The IIIEE is introducing a variety of elected representatives from cities around world to gain insights and inspiration for how cities are responding to climate change. The cities and representatives include: Amanda Stone, Former Mayor and Council Member - Yarra, Melbourne, Australia; Jeni Arndt, Mayor - Fort Collins, Colorado, USA; Emmanuel Serunjoji, Mayor - Kampala, Uganda; Simon Chrisander, Deputy Mayor - Malmo, Sweden; and Katja Dörner, Mayor - Bonn, Germany. The conversations cover the topics of mindset shifts at municipalities, combining efforts on climate emergencies and climate neutral cities, integrated renewable energy, the 15 minute city concept, and retrofitting homes and buildings.
The first film with Amanda Stone from Yarra, Melbourne – Australia - is now available. Yarra is a city that has been out in front on climate action for decades. The city has declared a climate emergency as a foundation to climate action planning. The council operations are in fact carbon neutral and the focus has shifted to making the city or community also meet this ambition. The “Yarra Energy Foundation” has a role to facilitate collaborations and act as a hub to pull together disparate groups and organisations to work on a zero carbon future.
