In April, the knowledge platform Climate-neutral cities 2030 – Open Academy held its first joint workshop on the theme of mobility and transportation.
Emissions related to mobility and transportation account for a large part of emissions within cities, with shares reaching up to 50%. Current trends are showing that although these emissions are continuously being reduced through targeted actions and new technologies, the transition is moving too slowly to meet reduction goals by 2030 – which calls for further action and insights.
With representatives from the three EU Mission cities Malmö, Helsingborg and Lund, researchers from Lund university, Malmö university and SLU Alnarp, and representatives from a range of societal actors engaged in mobility issues, the workshop sparked inspiring conversations about how to support the cities in reducing emissions related to transportation. The conversations were boiled down to concrete recommendations of action items for cities to proceed with, and key research areas for academia to address in order to support further advancement within the transport and mobility sector.
Moving forward, the knowledge platform will continue its work in providing an arena for joint discussions between societal and academic audiences on essential topics for supporting climate-neutrality by 2030.
