Sustainable Urban Governance and Experimentation

Sustainable urban governance and experimentation - for a transition to low-carbon and resource-efficient economies.

Transition to a sustainable society involves a multitude of actors such as municipalities, businesses, public organisations and citizens, together advancing new knowledge and go beyond traditional ways to act. The theme Sustainable Urban Governance has the vision to together with these societal actors develop policy, tools and procedures supporting effective 'urban governance' leading to a sustainable society.

The theme Sustainable Urban Governance is solution-oriented and supports policy-making processes as well as locally initiated grassroot initiatives. Focus in research is to develop tools such as collaborative dialogues, urban living labs, financing models, local regulations and public procurement for urban transition processes, with the purpose to improve social, economic and environmental quality in urban arenas. This in ways that are democratic and inclusive and gives flexibility to support a multitude of initiatives and solutions.
