Registration of the defence

The next step is for your supervisor to register your defence, which from autumn 2020 should be done at least 12 weeks prior to the defence date.

Preparatory meeting

Prior to the registration, a preparatory meeting with the main supervisor, the Director of PhD studies and IIIEE Director must be held where the appropriateness of the composition of the committee members, the opponent and the chairperson is discussed. By that time the supervisors should be ready with the suggestions, in line with the guidance as to how to choose the committee members. The protocol of the meeting, following the template, must be signed by the main supervisor and the Director of PhD studies or IIIEE Director.

What you need for the registration

The registration should be done from the link available from the LTH guidance page and the following materials should be ready.

  • The almost final thesis: though does not have to be the final version, the thesis to be uploaded should be good enough exhibiting good prospect for finalisation prior to the spikning day. Note: make sure to include all the appended articles, in addition to almost-ready kappa.
  • Minutes (protocol) from the preparatory meeting (see above)
  • Popular science summary (in English or in Swedish)
  • A document describing the contribution of the student to the respective appended articles
  • CVs of the opponent and all the examination committee members (including the supplement), compiled in one PDF file (and uploaded under “opponent”).
  • A concise explanation/justification of committee members

Note! Do be very careful in not making any spelling mistakes etc. as it will cause extra work for other people involved (PhD administrator at the IIIEE, LTH administration etc).

To do after the on-line registration

Once the on-line registration is completed, an application document appears, which should be printed, signed by the main supervisor and be handed in to the LTH central office (details are found on the form itself).
