As part of the Sustainability Week in Lund, IIIEE opened the doors to the public for a panel discussion on the lifelong learning to advance sustainable urban solutions.
Moderator was Björn Wickenberg from the Malmö Stad/IIIEE who opened the session with a few words about IIIEE’s take on sustainability, cities and innovation. The first presenter out was Charlotte Leire from the IIIEE who gave a run-down on path leading to our current portfolio of MOOCs. Jessika Richter from the IIIEE followed with a presentation on the possible impacts MOOCs can have for learners in the context of sustainability: what the data can tell us and what it can't and what can that mean for the potential of MOOCs? At the end Carina Borgström-Hansson from WWF Cities and Kes McCormick from IIIEE/SLU introduced the latest additions to the MOOCs at the IIIEE, with a brand new course as a collaboration with WWF. The session was then finalized with a panel discussion with all speakers.
Some take-aways from the panel discussion:
“The fun part with MOOCs is that we reach far beyond the walls of the university”
“MOOCs are planting seeds of transformation”
“MOOCs could be even more powerful if adapted to policy-making languages”
“As a MOOC learner I hope there will be a MOOC on transformational skills and becoming an activist and change-maker”
“For the future I think AI and automated translation of all MOOCs into any language could make the MOOCs explode!”
The session in the aula was immediately followed by a mingle event with drinks and snacks to exchange reflections and ideas on lifelong learning.
