Driving sustainability change in times of restriction

EMP students batch 26

Batch 26, the final-year students in the IIIEE Master in Environmental Management and Policy, have showed that they are capable of delivering value in a professional setting. Our capstone consulting course challenged the teams, this year with seven clients: Ikea, Axis, Oatly, Volvo Penta, Diab, Elkretsen and the Swedish Ministry of Environment. The projects covered a broad range of corporate and public sustainability matters – the clients come with real challenges to the teams to get support in their next steps. Topics included the use of SDGs to assess investments, how to move to raise ambitions in WEE recycling and framing the global perspective for the Stockholm+50 Conference.

"It is great to see the capability and versatility in our graduates to be. The topics they are able to grasp, gather global insights on, and contextualise to make sense to their clients are both challenging and highly diverse. The tasks are at the heart of the sustainability transformation of our societies and the way they go about the tasks is very professional, this year with the extra-ordinary covid19 situation. It is very rewarding as teacher to see the journey they do over the programme and what they are capable of delivering in this capstone course", says course leader Håkan Rodhe.

The setting with real clients really sharpens focus and attention, creating a strong desire to do well.  The nature of the projects bring together a broad range of perspectives to the issue, creating a rich learning experience. It is intense, challenging and rewarding. Also to the involved supervisors this is a valuable insight into how things work in reality, and several of the projects have direct links to on-going research at the iiiee.
