IIIEE at the ICLEI World Congress – filming and podcasting for capacity building and lifelong learning

ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability and the City of Malmö partnered with the International Institute for Industrial Environmental Economics and the City Futures Academy to support capacity building and lifelong learning of participants at the ICLEI World Congress 2021 – 2022. At the event, Kes McCormick in collaboration with the Coffee Break film team organised interviews with a variety of elected representatives from cities around world to gain insights and inspiration for how cities are responding to climate change.

The cities and representatives included: Amanda Stone, Former Mayor and Council Member - Yarra, Melbourne, Australia; Jeni Arndt, Mayor - Fort Collins, Colorado, USA; Emmanuel Serunjoji, Mayor - Kampala, Uganda; Simon Chrisander, Deputy Mayor - Malmo, Sweden; and Katja Dörner, Mayor - Bonn, Germany. The conversations covered the topics of mindset shifts at municipalities, combining efforts on climate emergencies and climate neutral cities, integrated renewable energy, the 15 minute city concept, and retrofitting homes and buildings.

In addition, Kes McCormick and Frans Libertson conducted podcast interviews as a mini-series on cities, climate and change with a focus on the work of WRI Ross Centre for Cities and the Prize for Cities; the European Commission and its efforts on the mission for climate neutral cities; ICLEI offices in the USA and Africa as well ICLEI research who are leading initiatives on municipalities and research; and finally, the Pune Municipal Corporation in India that is spearheading activities on climate action in the city of Pune.
