ISP

Individual Study Plan is a formal agreement between you as a PhD student and the IIIEE, where discussion and agreement with your supervisors and departmental representative(s) regarding the progress and the plan of completing your PhD study is documented. This is also where we officially document your involvement in so-called departmental duties.

At the IIIEE, we request all the PhD students to update their ISP twice a year (once before the summer, and once before the end of the year). We use the on-line ISP system at LTH. For the winter ISP we will have an ISP meeting where, in addition to the student and the supervisors, the Director of PhD studies and/or the IIIEE Director are also present and review the progress.  The ISP meeting before summer will be done only by the student and the supervisors. Note: in both cases, signatures from all parties (student, supervisors, the Director of PhD studies and IIIEE Director) are required.

A typical winter ISP goes through the following process.

  1. The Director of PhD studies sends an invitation for the meeting with some guidance.
  2. The student fills in/updates the on-line ISP.
  3. The student discusses the content with supervisors prior to the ISP meeting and make necessary changes.
  4. The student submit the ISP to the Director of PhD studies and IIIEE Director a day or so prior to the ISP meeting (timing specified under step 1) so that they can also review the ISP prior to the meeting.
  5. The ISP meeting takes place, where all parties review the student’s progress as well as other issues covered by the ISP (e.g. departmental duties).
  6. The student revises the ISP in accordance with the discussion during the ISP meeting (and in the case of summer ISP, comments received from the Director of PhD studies).
  7. The student receives signature from all the parties.
  8. The student locks the on-line ISP.
  9. The student submits the signed ISP to the PhD administrator.
  10. 10. The PhD administrator exports the locked ISP and archives the signed ISP

For summer ISP, you only need to go through steps 2 and 5-10.
In addition to a general instructions regarding the ISP provided by LTH, you find more information as to how to fill in the ISP as has been agreed upon at the IIIEE here.
