An upcoming IIIEE ‘Massive Open Online Course’ to be launched on the Coursera platform in the 3rd quarter of 2018

The CE-MOOC – or “The Circular Economy: Managing Materials Sustainably” – will reach out with learning content, and best practice examples, to broader social and political audiences.

The CE-MOOC content will be full of concrete examples of how and where raw materials; their value chains, and increased circularity are of fundamental importance for modern society.

Led by the IIIEE, the CE-MOOC brings in expertise from eight other leading partner institutions:  TU Delft (NL); VITO (BE); GEUS (DK) Ghent University (BE); the National Technical University of Athens (GR); Swerea IVF (SE), Höganäs AB (SE) and the Materials Engineering department of LTH. An extensive number of EU-based companies will also be involved as case study partners.

In addition to being a significant learning opportunity for global MOOC audiences, the CE-MOOC is to also serve as a platform for experience exchange among the many organisations that work with raw materials and the circular economy.

Targeted communication and education delivered by the CE-MOOC will contribute to increased awareness of a range of important companies and industries that work with raw materials – in particular those in Europe. It is being shaped so as to deliver increased awareness of raw materials, how they underpin our modern economies, and the importance of the circular economy within materials sector activities.

The last months of 2017 have been filled with the scripting and filming activities that will result in more than 30 individual lessons the MOOC. Creation and filming of case studies and learning content will continue in the first half of 2018.

Background

The MOOC is funded by the EIT Raw Materials programme funded by the European Commission (see: https://eitrawmaterials.eu). The EIT (European Institute of Innovation and Technology) has been created to boost competitiveness, growth and attractiveness of the European raw materials sector in the EU via radical innovation and guided entrepreneurship.
