The IIIEE has set up a joint initiative with the University of Stellenbosch, Centre for Complex Systems in Transition (CST), on exploring greener development models in Africa. Initiated by Dr Desta Mebratu, the ambition is a multi-year initiative called Distributed Renewable Economies for Africa’s Transition. In this we hope to engage Master's students, PhD students and senior staff in the two institutions for course work and research, including practical application in several countries in Africa. In April this year, two student teams from the IIIEE will engage in projects in Nakuru, Kenya, and Wonsho, Ethiopia.
