REES research programme - kick-off!

REES kick-off in Söderköping

On 5 October the REES research programme (financed to a large extent by MISTRA), will have a kick-off in Söderköping, Sweden to start collaborating on Resource-Efficient and Effective Solutions, based on circular economy thinking (REES).

Background:

Mistra’s Board has decided to invest up to SEK 42 million, over a four-year period, in the REES (Resource-Efficient and Effective Solutions, based on circular economy thinking) research programme. The REES consortium consists of three academic partners (Linköping University, IIIEE at Lund University and Chalmers University of Technology), five large companies (Attends Healthcare AB, Ericsson AB, Stena Recycling AB, Volvo Group, Volvo Car Group), seven SMEs (Godsinlösen, HTC Sweden AB, Inrego AB, Off2Off, Polyplank AB, Qlean Scandinavia AB, and Ståthöga MA Teknik AB), two non-profit organizations (Din Fabrik and Stpln), and two municipalities (Lund and Malmö).

The purpose of the initiative is, with knowledge and innovative ideas, to promote the development of a circular economy, i.e. a society based on closed-loop material flows. Together the REES partners will contribute towards the European target of a 30% reduction in domestic material use by 2020.

At the IIIEE the programme is lead by Prof. Oksana Mont and two senior researchers, Dr. Carl Dalhammar and Dr. Andrius Plepys. Nine PhD positions have been admitted within the REES programme and three of them are starting their PhD programme at the IIIEE in November 2015.
