Last week, IIIEE researchers met with partners from the Naturescapes project during a visit to Cartagena, Colombia. As part of the visit they had a chance to dip into the on-going field study and meet the actors that influence the implementation and running of nature-based solutions in cities.

The focus of the NATURESCAPES project is nature-based solutions from a landscape perspective. PhD-student in the project, Philipp Montenegro, is currently studying the role of co-governance, co-finance and citizen science techniques for nature-based initiatives in Cartagena, Colombia.

Several of the researchers from the Naturescapes project have now met in Cartagena to discuss community-lead restoration processes and met with actors including ecotourism companies, local foundations, institutions, authorities, hotels, companies and scientists. They also had a chance to visit national parks, mangrove sites and the archipelago. IIIEE researchers in the Naturescapes team were Philipp Montenegro and Yuliya Voytenko Palgan.

Insights from the studies in Cartagena will be used to generate actionable knowledge and tools to support transformative change in cities around the world - allowing them to become more resilient and sustainable.
