PhD Program at IIIEE
The PhD Program at the International
Institute for Industrial Environmental Economics (IIIEE) is a two-years program
to achieve a Licentiate Degree and a four-years program to achieve a PhD Degree.
Please, note that all experience
indicates the overwhelming majority of PhD students in Sweden need a longer
period than the program is planned for. Most PhD students are also involved in
teaching and/or institute administration, which will extend the period with
about 25%.
Scientific work
The studies shall
include scientific work documented in a licentiate or a PhD thesis.
The
aim of the scientific study is to look at a significant problem in relation to
today’s level of knowledge to such an extent and thoroughness that the quality
of the work merits publication in a leading international scientific journal.
The scientific work is presented in the form of a compilation of articles, a
monograph or a combination of both.
The scientific work is preceded by a
survey of the existing knowledge on the intended subject. This literature survey
is partly presented in the form of a seminar lecture, partly in the form of
written reports that may be part of the PhD or licentiate thesis.
Part
of the examination of the licentiate thesis is a public seminar. An external
examiner is appointed for the licentiate seminar.
The PhD thesis
defence is held at a public seminar. A grading committee and an opponent
appointed by the university are present who will scrutinize the thesis.

Luis Mundaca successfully defended his dissertation
in September 2008.
Admission
New students can only be
accepted to the PhD program if there is a financial solution for the entire PhD
period. This limits the possibilities to accept new students if they are not
included in exsiting research projects. There is no special application form.

Licentiate & PhD degrees at the
IIIEE
Research topics for PhD / Licentiate are spread widely across
the territory of preventative approaches. The initial research projects and
dissertations have provided a converging sense of appropriate and productive
research methods and an exploration of appropriate PhD / Licentiate courses.
