Environmental
Product Policies
The research into environmental product policies
investigates the use of policy instruments from a governmental as well as
corporate perspective, for example the implementation of the extended producer
responsibility (EPR) principle and the use of informative instruments
(eco-labels and environmental product declarations).
Several of the FLIPP projects conducted at IIIEE are devoted to analysing
and developing this area. Particular projects investigate the incorporation of
life cycle thinking in environmental legislation, for instance in the use of
environmental licensing of production facilities, and the corporate responses to
EPR legislation.
With financing from the Nordic Council of Ministers, the IIIEE has
also during 2004 been involved in a capacity building project in integrated
product policy (IPP) for the Baltic States.
The Institute also supported the rapporteur of the European Parliament on IPP
with a critical assessment of the of the IPP communication. A similar work was
initiated on the Environmental Technologies Action Plan (ETAP) and finalised in
January 2005.
The
studies on product service systems, product chain interactions, and sustainable
consumption are also embracing policy
aspects.
