Sustainable Fashion

On 15 May at 10:00 - 12:00, the IIIEE is arranging a seminar on sustainable fashion in the Aula at Tegnérsplatsen 4 in Lund. Join this event and get a glimpse of what IIIEE researchers have been working on in the past 10+ years in this area.

This seminar is part of the Sustainability Week during the Lund University 350 jubilee.

Description of the seminar:

Clothes, textiles and fashion are indispensable elements of human being. They serve various functions – all the way from meeting the basic needs to protect ourselves from outside environment and maintaining necessary condition for survival, to expression of our identities and as symbols of wealth and power. Many of us link not only economical but also emotional values to them.

Despite their significance and importance, textiles also exert various environmental and human health impacts in their life cycle; most notably during the use and production phase via the use of chemicals, water and energy. These impacts increase as our consumption of textiles increase – in Sweden alone, the consumption of clothes and home textiles increase by more than 50% between 2000 and 2015. And the amount of raw materials available for textiles – especially renewable/natural fibres – started to come to its limit.

How can we reduce the environmental and accompanying human health impacts arising from our textile consumption? What measures have fashion brands, retailers and other commercial actors been taking? What are the roles of government and civil society, and us consumers?

The event is free of charge but registration is neededTo register for the seminar, please fill in the registration form below.
