The programme encompasses two academic years of study corresponding to 120 ECTS points, and is made up of four parts, each corresponding to 30 ECTS:
• Basic distance block (on-line)
• Advanced block (on campus in Lund)
• Applied block (on campus in Lund)
• Thesis project (on or off campus)
The basic distance block is carried out during the nine-month period from October to June. During this block, the participants remain in their home countries and take part in the education via the Internet. Internet connection and basic equipment for IP-based communication is required. Participants are expected to spend roughly 20 hours per week on the course.
The two following parts, the advanced and applied blocks, are carried out on-site in Lund, starting in August and continuing on into May the following year. The advanced block is characterized by coursework on-site, several study-visits and group assignments. The applied block still has some in-class work, involves more individual paper writing and practical exercises involving industries and regional actors. There is also a tighter link to research activities of the IIIEE in this block.
The thesis project follows straight after the third block from May to September. This part of the programme is performed wherever suitable for the project in question. Students gather in Lund in late September for thesis defences and graduation.
