Masters Programme in Environmental Management and Policy EMP
This combined online and onsite MSc programme aims to prepare professionals with expertise in environmental strategies for careers as executives, analysts, decision makers, policy makers, researchers and consultants. The programme concentrates on creating preventative environmental solutions for industry and government, understanding political, economic, social and industrial systems, and applying appropriate policies and measures to solve integrated environmental problems.
Overview
This MSc programme addresses multiple disciplines including economics, technology, law and policy, politics, management, and environmental science. Specialty courses focus on sustainable consumption, energy policy, cleaner product systems, and industrial environmental management. Practical courses assess industrial systems then work with numerous clients to develop efficient and functional solutions.
The “green” side, i.e. understanding environmental science, makes up less than 5% of the overall programme. The main effort lies instead in understanding the systems we have in society in general and industry in particular, and how to take appropriate measures to solve environmental problems from waste management to creating renewable energy policies. Interaction with various stakeholders in society over the course of the programme is both a trademark and a key success criteria for understanding issues from different points of view.
The education has a broad focus on international issues, often taking a closer look at Swedish and European practices. Many of the tools studied can easily be applied in many situations.
In late September or early October every year a solemn Graduation ceremony takes place when we hand over diplomas to our Master's students in the university aula. Speeches are given by a representative from Lund University, our Director and an invited speaker as well as students from the Master's programme.
