The IIIEE is dedicated to practice the theory of sustainable development that we teach. The IIIEE works actively and systematically with environmental aspects and have been approved according to the Lund University Environmental Management System (EMS) of "Grodan" (the Frog).
Our key objectives for the EMS are to decrease energy consumption in the IIIEE building and to manage our travelling in a more sustainable manner. The building has had a new heat exchanger installed. Energy efficient light bulbs have been installed and light switches complemented with control sensors. We are mapping the climate in our offices and have equipped our officies with thermometers for a more efficient heating.
We measure our environmental aspects with indicators annually and a system to measure the climate impact of travelling has been introduced. During the years of 2010-2011, we will increase our efforts and actively seek to enhance the use of virtual meetings as a means to replace and complement travelling.
Since travelling dominates the IIIEE's climate impact, the IIIEE purchases emission rights under the Emission Trading Scheme (ETS) in Europe. Our emission rights are then withdrawn from the ETS. The IIIEE has purchased emission rigts since 2007. We will continue to review efforts to reduce our climate impact.
